Significant correspondents include Dore Ashton, Jim Huntington, Sam Messer, Peter Plagans, Harvey Quaytman, and Adya Yunkers, son John Berthot, mother Sara Berthot, and ex-wives and partners Ginny McKenzie, Edith Gould, and Suzanne Chamlin. Also found is correspondence with the David McKee Gallery, Nielson Gallery, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, as well as with various schools, including the Cooper Union and Yale University, and students. The collection also contains miscellaneous exhibition files, financial files, writings, printed materials such as catalogs, clippings, exhibition reviews, and announcements, and photographs, primarily of works of art by others, but also including personal snapshots.
